New rules for the League

Read the detailed comments to the latest Championship played last February 5, and see how the Pontevecchio Mikes won their second straight Finals.

But this bulletin is dedicated to the latest revolutionary new rule approved in a recent meeting, which disciplines the players' usage in a different way than before. The intent of the league's owners is to make of their game the best possible resemblance to the real thing, and that's why in the past, for instance, a strict usability of the left - right splits was determined , dumping of players traded to the National League was prohibited, a minimum number of games started was set as a necessary requirement for a pitcher to be part of a post-season rotation, the new concept of payroll was introduced to let each owner protect a similar team value rather than just the same number of players, and so on.

A Mikes Dynasty ?

The latest rule approved goes in the same direction, and it must be said that our five-year experience has immensely helped us refine our game, making it better and better without losing any of the excitement. The new rule takes effect immediately, and takes care of a big discrepancy that existed between our game and the real one. There was no limitation to roster management, as far as lineups were concerned. Players couldn't be used for more AB's than real life, the left-right split had to be respected, but that was all. The result was that a hypothetical owner, having two starters at certain position, could platoon them if their splits encouraged it. You could see weird platoons, indeed.

Well, starting with the 1999 season, any owner has to set a regular at any position, a player with a minimum 350 AB's played, and substitutions can only be made if some AB's are missing. That is, if you have Bernie Williams and he has played all season in real life, you just make him your regular at center field, and you can't put in your roster management those 30 AB's of a rookie who hit .360 versus right-handers after having been called up on September 10 by Minnesota. The new rule will be reported in the rules page shortly.
