Owners' League News

A new season starts

After weeks of winter nights spent studying all the available sources of information, the owners met at the classic Argodome site on March 23, 27 and 30 for the league's annual draft, and most of them were as ready as ever. The draft list included more than eight hundred players, but not one of them was a perfect unknown to the smartest owners.
The most notable event of this year's draft was the first outing of the new management of the Babau Fatties. You will soon find a brief description of the new co-owner, in the insider page. The team's braintrust are also considering a change of the franchise name.

1998 Keepers and Draft
As it had been anticipated, this was Pedro J. Martinez' draft. Last year's NL Cy Young Award winner, coming to the AL, was easily expected to draw the biggest money ever for a single player drafted, and after a brief head-to-head counter-bidding between the Sniffers and the Candies, the former prevailed with a L. 44,500 bid. The Sniffers, along with the Burberries, the Bucks and the Fatties, look like the more improved teams in an early evaluation. This shows the vitality of our game, where sometimes a good draft is all that is needed to turn a losing team into a contender.
